A blend of 63% Merlot and 37% Cabernet Franc. 640 cases made. Aromas of black cherry, salty liquorice and dried flowers. Rich, ripe flavours of black cherry, black olive, liquorice and leather have a hint of heat as they come across as quite ripe and extracted. Powdery tannins are suede-supple, and there's decent acidity. (AY)

Bright, dark red. Alluring scents of blackberry, cassis, dark chocolate and licorice. Plush, suave, dry and seamless, with its fully ripe, slightly high-toned flavors of blueberry, graphite and tropical dark chocolate showcasing the breadth of the vintage. This big, plush blend finishes with superb persistence, building tannins and no rough edges.
The 2015 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard offers up notions of sweet red and black berries, licorice, orange rind and cigar tobacco. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and layered, with a deep core of fruit, firm but fine-grained structuring tannins and a long, rich finish. This is a bit more chunky and foursquare than this year's supremely charming Champoux bottling—as is to be expected from Red Mountain in a hot year—but it displays impressive stuffing and should evolve beautifully in the cellar.
