The 2011 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard offers a perfumed, floral bouquet of violets, incense, potpourri, lead pencil shavings and sweet black and blue fruits, with just a touch of volatile acidity adding lift to the aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, rich and nicely concentrated (especially in the vintage) on the palate, with plenty of tannin, it still has a youthful feel and should be at its best from 2018-2028.

52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% Merlot. Baked fruit with a sort of burnt raisin note. Furry tannins, savoury finish, high acid. Reasonably low alcohol considering the style of fruit. (RH)
(a 52/48 blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot): Bright red-ruby. Sexy aromas of blackberry, violet and licorice, along with a musky soil-driven nuance. Rich, thick and sweet; wonderfully plush and seamless for a Bordeaux blend from this cool year, with a texture of liquid silk. Already very showy, this superb wine’s serious building tannins promise a slow evolution in bottle. A great expression of this outstanding vineyard, and seemingly even richer in the early going than the superb 2010 was a year ago.
