Coming from the Santa Cruz Mountains, located just south of San Francisco, the 2019 Chardonnay Trout Gulch Vineyard is a bright, mineral-laced, incredibly juicy Chardonnay offering lots of lemon and bright pineapple fruits as well as white flowers and ample salty minerality. Balanced, medium-bodied, and with both good mid-palate density and vibrant acidity, it's going to benefit from a year or two of bottle age and will evolve for over a decade. It's a brilliant Chardonnay.

Vineyard in the far south of Santa Cruz Mountains near Aptos on the coast. Whole-cluster pressed. No added yeast or lactic bacteria. Aged without racking in neutral French oak for 12 months and then six in tank. 275 cases produced. A strong stone-fruit character on the nose. A little funkier than the Sonoma Coast bottling – by which I don't mean it is at all outrageously 'natural' but it's walking gently on the wild side to deliver something of real interest. I don't see the saline character highlighted in the producer's own notes but it's a really well made, interesting wine with sufficient natural acidity to age really well, I would have thought. Long and reverberant. Real tension in this youthful wine. (JR)
The 2019 Chardonnay Trout Gulch is bright and beautifully lifted in the glass. White flowers, lemon peel, mint and white pepper give the 2019 striking aromatic brilliance. Chardonnays from Trout Gulch can be a bit austere, but not here. All the elements are so well balanced.
