Tasting notes
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard is valley-floor hedonism at its best. Plush and dark-fruited, with an earthy-loamy undercurrent, this is full-bodied and expansive on the palate, with ample concentration, a creamy-supple feel and a broad, lingering finish. Darn impressive stuff, which mailing-list members will enjoy comparing with the 100-point wines made in 2018 and 2019.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard has turned into a pretty powerful wine. Black cherry, Kirsch, spice, mocha, gravel and rose petals all grace this super-expressive Cabernet. The 2021 is a particularly dark, virile wine, especially for this site. In that sense, it is perhaps a bit atypical, its considerable beauty notwithstanding.
An Haut-Brion look-alike, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard reveals a dense purple hue to go with awesome aromatics of smoky red and black fruits, iron, scorched earth, tobacco, and black olives that's to die for. Hitting the palate with full-bodied richness, it shows the vintage's more straight, focused style yet is still voluptuous and sexy, with building tannins, incredibly purity, and a great, great finish. Pure Napa Valley magic, this insanely good Cabernet Sauvignon deserves 3-5 years of bottle age and will have 30-40 years of overall longevity.
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard is racy and flamboyant to the core. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, leather, licorice and crème de cassis are all amplified in this unctuous, jammy Cabernet. There's not a ton of subtlety here, but plenty of opulence and immediacy.
