This wine was tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre has a confident and generous bouquet that is well defined with lemon thyme and flinty scents. The palate is fresh and tensile on the entry, linear and taut with a poised, lightly spiced finish that lingers in the mouth. This shows good typicity and I suspect it will improve with another couple of years in bottle.

Somehow chalky nose. Bone-dry finish. Real classic transparent stuff. Very liquid in the nicest way; I don’t mean watery. (JR)
Good pale yellow. Nuanced, high-pitched aromas of lemon zest, crushed stone, spices, jasmine and rose petal. Juicy and incisive in the mouth, showing terrific cut and perfumed lift to the flavors of citrus and stone fruits, flowers, mint and minerals. Excellent definition and grip here, and precise and long on the finish. Still very young and in need of bottle aging.
Riper citrus on the nose compared with the Sécher. Initially fuller in the mouth but quite austere on the palate. Complete and lively with moderate length. (JH)
