Tasting notes
Another sensational wine, the 2016 Cabernet Franc was brought up all in new French oak. This awesome wine has a saturated purple color, huge notes of blackberries, black cherries, spring flowers, espresso, and forest floor, full body, seamless tannins, and a heavenly finish. The 2016 vintage was exceptional for Cabernet Franc, and you certainly see the quality here. This rock star effort is up with the top tier wines in the vintage and will keep for two decades.

The 2016 Cabernet Franc Old Vine is terrific in this vintage. The Sinegal Franc has never been that varietally expressive, but the 2016 seems to really move things forward in that regard. Aromatically expressive and penetrating, the 2016 is bright and beautifully focused, while retaining its typical body and overall textural resonance. Dark cherry, mocha, new leather, licorice and spice are front and center. The 2016 was fermented entirely in oak, both puncheon and an upright tank.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Franc has a wonderful perfume of roses, black and red cherries, mulberries and forest floor with pencil lead, baking spices and rose hip tea. The medium to full-bodied palate is elegant, plush, super intense and perfumed, finishing very long with mineral hints.
The 2016 Cabernet Franc Old Vine is quite dark and imposing in this vintage. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, licorice and menthol give the wine its unique flavor signature. As always, the Sinegal Franc is more expressive of the estate than of the varietal, and yet the wine itself is undeniably compelling. Silky, polished tannins add nuance to the deep, plush fruit.
