Score 90+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2006

(15.9% alcohol; Turley has taken over the farming of the vines in his block of this vineyard) Bright ruby. Quite primary on the nose, with a pronounced rocky character to the cool blackberry and mint aromas. Juicy and densely packed, with impressive concentration and breadth. Roasted raspberry and chocolate flavors are still a bit youthfully unevolved, and the wine's substantial building tannins argue for a year or so of patience.

Displaying an elegant, Pinot Noir-like style, the 2004 Zinfandel Mead Ranch Atlas Peak exhibits a plum/raspberry/cherry-like character reminiscent of a Pinot Noir from Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. Medium to full-bodied, elegant, and pure, it should be consumed over the next 3-4 years. (Release date 4/06) Tel. (707) 963-0940; Fax (707) 963-8683
