Tasting notes
Quite dark ruby with orange-tinged rim. Shows definitely the herbal, tobacco notes of age, but there is sweet, rich dark fruit underneath. Iron. Rich, concentrated palate too. Upfront and direct and sweet, spiked with acidity and big tannin, but strikes a balance. Captivating and very modern. (WS)

The 2001 Chianti Classico Riserva, with a perfumed floral and spicy nose, shows what can be accomplished in a positive year – the depth and solidity of the palate, the pleasurable notes of tar and leather, and the racy, aristocratic personality are those of superior grapes and winemaking. Drink over the next 8-10 years. Importer: Montecastelli Selections, New York, NY; tel. (212) 414-4898
