The 2012 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is missing a little vigor on the nose compared to Frederic Magnien's other grand cru 2012, a little disjointed. The palate is medium-bodied with some under-ripeness just marring the tight, linear finish. I was expecting more from this grand cru.

Good full red. Reduced, slightly funky aromas of red berries, boysenberry, salted meat and leather. Fat, broad and supple, conveying a high-pH mouthfeel and good early appeal. This actually has a pH of 3.68, the highest of this range, which is generally between 3.4 and 3.5. A big, slightly oily wine that will probably be best over the next six or seven years.
