Tasting notes
The 2005 Carema Etichetta Nera is a potent, brooding wine. Black cherry, game, espresso, incense and licorice add to an impression of somber gravitas. The 2005 is a wild, gamy Carema endowed with tons of textural intensity and pure power. Huge fruit and intense tannins are nicely paired in this decidedly deep, virile Carema.

The 2005 Carema Etichetta Nera is a very pretty, harmonious wine. Sweet pipe tobacco, herbs, licorice, flowers and dark cherries come together beautifully in this well-balanced Etichetta Nera. The 2005 reveals lovely inner perfume and a long, harmonious finish. The 2005 is quite a bit more open than the 2006. It may not have that wine's structere but is drinking far better today, not to mention it appears to have more upside potential as well.

These are three beautiful wines from Ferrando, the standard bearer in Piedmont’s tiny Carema appellation. Importer: Rosenthal Wine Merchants, Pine Plains, NY; tel. (800) 910-1990
