2013 Luigi Ferrando Carema Etichetta Nera Black Label

Ferrando's 2013 Carema Etichetta Nera is a total knock-out. Deep and fleshy (within the context of the appellation) the 2013 offers superb palate depth to balance some of the more floral, savory and mineral-driven overtones that are so typical of this wine. The new oak influence – always the Achilles heel of the Etichetta Nera – has come down, which allows the fruit to really shine through. Hints of macerated cherry, sweet tobacco, kirsch, rosewater and sage add lovely dimensions of nuance. The 2013 is easily one of the best editions of the Etichetta Nera I have tasted in some time. Don't miss it.
