Tasting notes
Phelps's 2021 Syrah Larry Hyde & Sons Vineyard delivers lovely complexity on the nose, with black and blue fruit combining with hints of menthol and cracked pepper. Incorporating 25% whole clusters and 5% Viognier, this full-bodied, supple wine spent 17 months in 32% new French puncheons, with the balance in older puncheons and barrels, yet it reveals little overt oak. Softly dusty on the finish, it's approachable now, yet it should drink well for at least a decade. This is a terrific effort and a fine value.

The 2021 Syrah Hyde Vineyard is terrific. Rich, ample and layered, with exceptional polish, the 2021 dazzles from start to finish. Inky dark fruit, mocha, spice, new leather and lavender are beautifully delineated. This is supremely delicious.
A gorgeous wine, the 2021 Syrah Larry Hyde & Sons Vineyard has classic blackberry, violet, peppery herb, and some bacon fat notes to go with a pure, medium to full-bodied, layered, seamless style on the palate. The blend is 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier that's co-fermented, with the aging spanning 18 months in 36% new puncheons.
The 2021 Syrah Hyde Vineyard is deep, inky and resonant. The Hyde Syrah is positively stellar in 2021. The 40% whole clusters are buried under a mass of inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and black pepper. The 2021 is one of the best vintages I can remember tasting. This is an exceptional showing.
