Tasting notes
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Bone Ash Vineyard, from a 23-year-old Calistoga vineyard with white volcanic tufa soils, is another big Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine bottled unfined and unfiltered. This is a killer wine with flawless integration of acidity, alcohol, tannin and wood. The color is a saturated bluish/purple, the wine full-bodied with great fruit purity, real presence on the palate, terrific velvety opulence, and a long finish of 45+ seconds. This is a stunning wine to drink now and over the next 20-some years.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Bone Ash Vineyard was a little earthy and closed the day I had it, showing less than some of the other cuvées from Venge. Certainly, it's a dense ruby/purple color with nice toasty oak, but a bit disjointed. This is certainly a low-90-point wine, possibly better, but I'll wait until it's in bottle.
