Two new wines I have never before tasted from Venge include the 250-case lot of 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Bone Ash, named after their 12-acre estate vineyard in Oakville. As one might expect from Venge, this is a 20-25-year wine ... at the minimum. Dense ruby/purple-hued with beautiful pure blueberry and black currant fruit and full-bodied, rich flavors revealing hints of graphite and spicy oak, this dense, rich yet young wine will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and drink well over the following 2-3 decades. This classic Cabernet is one of the best Cabernet Sauvignons I have tasted from the north end of Napa Valley. Kirk Venge purchased the brand in 2008 from his father Nils and has been making the wines for Venge Family Reserve ever since. Tel. (707) 942-9100; Fax (707) 942-9121
