(52% syrah, 40% cabernet sauvignon and 8% petit verdot) Opaque ruby. Deep, smoky aromas of blackcurrant, cherry-cola, black pepper, vanilla, tobacco and smoked meat. Broad, chewy red and dark berry flavors gain sweetness with air while picking up strong, chewy tannins. Finishes long and impressively sappy. The 2005, which I retasted next to this, is more brooding and will need more patience.
