Tasting notes
The gorgeous 2006 Syrah Alder Springs Vineyard boasts an opulent texture as well as a flamboyant bouquet of flowers, blueberries, blackberries, graphite, and crushed rocks, superb fruit, medium to full body, sweet tannins, and low acidity. Wines from this vineyard can be incredibly impressive in their youth, but after 3-5 years, they tend to drop their fruit at an accelerated rate, so I would recommend drinking this 2006 during its exuberant youth. I am only providing tasting notes for the Arnot-Roberts cuvees for which there are more than 100 cases, which includes the Syrah Hudson Vineyard (220 cases) and Syrah Alder Springs Vineyard (150 cases). Opaque purple. A huge, sexy bouquet offers cassis, blueberry, smoked meat, violet and musky herbs. Deep, sweet and pliant, showing remarkably pure, concentrated red and blue fruit flavors with great spicy lift. The finish refuses to end, echoing the sweet blueberry quality. The fruit here is simply stunning. This was fermented with 100% of its stems and has a very high pH, according to Meyers.
