Tasting notes
Composed of 46% Petite Sirah, 31% Mourvèdre and 23% Zinfandel, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Pato Heritage has quite an earthy nose with aromas of tar over black fruits, stewed plums and smoked meats nuances. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated with firm, muscular tannins, very earthy/savory in the mouth with a long finish.

A new wine in this range, the 2016 Pato Vineyard Heritage Wine is absolutely stellar. The high percentage of Petite Sirah in this site gives the wine its density and dark, meaty profile. Leather, smoke, tobacco and spice add nuance throughout, but the Pato is a wine of structure above all else. This site, originally planted in 1905, appears to have significant potential in the hands of Morgan Peterson and Chris Cottrell. It will be fascinating to see where future vintages go.
