The Grenache-based 2009 Sensibility is quite powerful at first, but then loses some of its complexity on the mid-palate and finish. Dark red fruit, licorice and spices are some of the notes that are found in the glass. The 2009 is 75% Grenache, 21% Mourvèdre and 4% Syrah. It is ideally enjoyed over the next 2-3 years.

Dark red cherries, herbs and spices are some of the notes that are found in the glass. The 2009 is 75% Grenache, 21% Mourvedre and 4% Syrah. It is ideally enjoyed over the next 2-3 years. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2014. Epoch is one of the up and coming estates in Paso Robles. I tasted every wine made at Epoch since inception over the several hours I spent at the winery in June. Winemaker Jordan Fiorentini is trying to give each of the Epoch wines a clearer identity, something that has been missing in previous vintages, but that isn’t all that surprising given the very young age of the estate’s vineyards. With each passing year the wines are stronger. It seems quite obvious the best is yet to come. I tasted the 2010 Estate White, Veracity, Sensibility, Zinfandel and Estate Blend from bottle, and the rest of the 2010 reds in their final blends, from barrel. All of these wines are made from Epoch’s Paderweski Vineyard, which also supplies fruit to a small number of other artisan producers. Tel (805) 237-2011
Elegant, seamless and made with the goal of highlighting the more feminine side to Paso Robles, the 2009 Sensibility is a blend of 75% Grenache, 21% Mourvedre, and 4% Syrah that's aged for 23 months in French oak barrels and puncheons, 30% being new. Opaque, yet with some lightening at the rim, this Châteauneuf-du-Pape look alike boasts classy aromas of blackberry, smoked cherries, dried spice, licorice, and leather on the nose. More suave and deep than upfront and overt, this unwinds with air and possesses a medium to full-bodied, silky texture, perfectly ripe fruit, and a serious finish that builds through the mid-palate and highlights ripe, fine tannin. Absolutely delicious and just a joy to drink, this should continue to impress for another 5-8 years, if not longer.
(75% grenache, 21% mourvedre and 4% syrah): Bright violet. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes red berries, gingerbread and fresh rose. Smooth and seamless on the palate, with intense raspberry and cherry flavors perked up by clove and cracked pepper. Sweet and focused on the finish, with the red fruit note repeating.
