The 2011 Sensibility Grenache from the Paderewski vineyard is blended with 5% Syrah and was harvested on October 20th. It was fermented in concrete and aged 16 months in neutral puncheons. Medium ruby, it features bright red berry fruit, with notes of orange peel, forest floor and laurel leaves. The palate is bright, spicy and silky, with an ethereal, spicy finish. It will hold for a few more years in bottle. 100 cases were made.

(95% grenache and 5% syrah; fermented in concrete and raised in neutral puncheons; bottled unfined and unfiltered): Deep ruby. Heady aromas of blueberry and cherry compote, with notes of spicecake and lavender adding complexity. Lush, deeply pitched dark fruit flavors show very good vivacity and power, with a spicy quality building on the back end. A suave marriage of richness and elegance, finishing with echoes of floral pastilles and soft tannins.

Epoch's 2011 Sensibility, 95% Grenache and 5% Syrah, was done entirely in concrete. Today, it comes across as rich, dense and powerful, with some slightly rough edges that need time to soften.

More Grenache dominated than the 2010 and a rough blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Syrah, fermented all in concrete and aged completely in neutral oak, the 2010 Sensibility is has a decidedly old-world feel with copious mineral-drench strawberry and berry fruit, licorice, ground pepper, and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, clean and well structured on the palate, yet with an elegant, pretty feel, it should be approachable on release, yet evolve gracefully as well. Beautifully done.
