Score 90/100 · William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Dec 2023

A new wine from the Lafite Rothschild stable, the 2018 Anseillan offers up exuberant aromas of blackberries, cherries and burning embers, framed by a discreet patina of creamy oak. Medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, it has a vibrant, precise core of fruit framed by rich, youthfully chewy tannins that assert themselves on the finish. It's a blend of 48% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Petit Verdot.

Coming from a cooler terroir east of Château Lafite, the 2018 Château Lafite Anseillan is 48% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Petit Verdot that spent 16-18 months in barrel. It has a ruby/purple hue as well as a solid bouquet of red and black cherries, currants, spicy oak, and tobacco. Medium-bodied, supple, and elegant on the palate, it has plenty of Pauillac character, outstanding balance, and is perfect for drinking any time over the coming 10-12 years or more. It's impeccably made and already delicious.

Full bottle 1,299 g. 48% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Petit Verdot from a parcel north of Ch Clerc Milon. Aged 16–18 months in barriques. Deep, lustrous crimson. Intense nose and lively palate with real drive and light saline touch. Some background tannin but really rather gorgeous already (late 2022). Throbs with vitality. Not a bad copy of a Ch Lafite from a good vintage! Maybe a tad sweeter and more emphatic. Some people call it Ch Anseillan but there is no 'Château' on the label. (JR)
