Tasting notes
Fresh pear and lime are laced with mint and celery seed on a delightful nose as well as on a luscious, coolingly herbal inner-mouth impression that is reinforced by an infusion of green tea and a silken, glossy feel. A marrowy, veal-stock-like savor accompanied by mineral salts renders the juicy, subtly smoky and chalky finish consummately mouthwatering. As could be expected of this site, there is slightly higher acidity here than in other Künstler 2018s. Künstler noted that given Domdechaney’s official VDP status as Erste Lage rather than Grosse Lage (and don’t get me started on how ridiculous that is – see notes on past vintages!), he leaves a few extra bunches hanging. I’d say this wine deliciously demonstrates how higher yields don’t necessarily conduce to lesser quality.

From very fertile, clayey loess-loam soils, Künstler's 2018 Hochheimer Domdechaney Riesling Trocken VDP. Erste Lage is very clear, precise and bright on the nose, with ripe white fruit aromas intermixed with lemon ones. It is a full-bodied, lush and fruity Riesling with vivacious acidity and a nice purity on the finish. The Domdechaney doesn't have the serenity and structure of the Hölle, but it's a more pleasant, accessible dry Riesling. Tasted from AP 12 19.
This is a wonderful white with fruit and slate. Hints of toffee and savory notes Full-bodied, layered and very rich, yet dry. Lovely and lively on the finish. Drink now.
