Score 87/100 · Drink 2014-2018, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb 2014

The 1997 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a bold and massive wine with distinctly evolved aromas of marinated meat, barbecue smoke, pipe tobacco and dark licorice. It shows an exotic, spicy personality imparted by the oak with drying, almost dusty tannins. It changes quickly as it takes on more air in the glass and is suited for near-term drinking. Drink: 2014-2018.

Dark red-ruby. Expressive aromas of raspberry and sweet oak. Big, rich, dense and broad, but with highly concentrated red fruit flavors supported by superb vinosity. A pliant, deep, traditionally made Brunello with fruit of steel. Very long, building finish features big, suave tannins and compelling sweetness of fruit.
