Complex aroma of briary red berries, cherry, wild herbs, bitter chocolate, licorice and earth. Fat and sweet but a bit sullen today, with an herbal, minty element and dusty, fine tannins. Very complex, but is it as fresh as the Charmes?

(from younger vines that yielded less ripe fruit; Lignier carried out a saignee Good bright red. Raspberry, pepper and spice on the nose. Juicy but on the dry side; less fruity and supple than the foregoing samples. Finishes with a slightly tough menthol quality and some dryness. Perhaps a bit too much bleeding of the juice here.
