The 2018 Meursault Clos des Bouchères 1er Cru has a nuanced, quite strict and precise bouquet. It opens with pressed white flower and subtle fumé scents, hints of almond and white chocolate loitering in the wings. The palate has a great deal of concentration on the front end, a real mass of Meursault here. As such, it is missing some nuance and precision on the finish. Maybe just picked a day late? Easy to drink, but I am not convinced it has long ageing potential. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Clos des Bouchères has turned out beautifully, wafting from the glass with scents of crisp Anjou pear, green apple, dried white flowers, nutmeg and pastry cream. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly fleshy and enveloping, it's bright and precise, with a tangy spine of acidity and a long, penetrating finish.

Chalky soils (cf more clay in Charmes). 2011 was their first vintage. Part planted 1980s, remainder replanted 1950s and 1970s, ‘Nearly’ organic when purchased. A sunny site so harvested early. Tank sample. Intense and piercing on the nose. Green fruits and citrus and bright precision. Much less reductive than the Le Porusot or the Charmes. Spice on the softer, rounded palate – seems softer on the mid palate and then tightens up on the finish to a stony/mineral, tight mouth-watering intensity. Seems to be changing all the while I am tasting. (JH)
