Tasting notes
One of the top Petite Sirah sites in California is the Palisades Vineyard, located in the northern end of Napa Valley east of the small village of Calistoga. The 37-75 year old vines can produce fabulous wines, and Carver-Sutro’s 2001 Petite Sirah Palisades Vineyard ranks alongside some of the finest California Petite Sirahs I have tasted. This 450-case, inky/purple-colored cuvee exhibits sumptuous aromas of graphite, blackberries, blueberries, acacia flowers, and barrique. A glorious display of fruit on the palate is followed by a full-bodied, concentrated, impeccably balanced red. High but sweet tannin is well-integrated in this infant Petite Sirah. It probably will not hit its peak for 7-10 years, and should last for 20-25. Tel. (707) 942-1029
