Tasting notes
(60% new oak): Bright yellow-gold. Fresh pear, nectarine and Meyer lemon on the mineral- and spice-tinged nose and palate. Juicy, tightly focused citrus and orchard fruit flavors slowly flesh out with air and show good energy and spicy lift. Finishes on a smoky note, with lingering vanilla and floral qualities and gentle mineral cut. Nicely blends power and finesse, and benefits quite a bit with aeration.

The slightly oaky 2011 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard reveals marmalade-like characteristics in an older, heavier style of California Chardonnay winemaking. There is good acidity in the finish, but the wine seems one-dimensional. Drink it over the next several years. I tasted three Pinot Noirs from this winery owned by entrepreneur and vineyard empire builder William S. Price, III. Tel. (707) 935-1863
