All Cabernet, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five sports a dense purple hue to go with brilliant crème de cassis fruits intermixed with ample graphite, tobacco leaf, and chalky minerality. It's shed a touch of its exuberant baby fat and has closed down slightly since release, yet still brings full-bodied richness and depth. It has another 15+ years of prime drinking ahead of it.

Another gorgeous wine in this range, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five is fabulous. Rich, powerful and explosive, the 2016 is endowed with real energy. Lavender, sage, menthol, licorice, spice and crème de cassis are some of the notes that build in this super-expressive, layered Cabernet from Shafer. The One Point Five isn't quite the screaming value it was a few years ago, but it is nevertheless terrific. Drink it over the next handful of years.

Made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five Stags Leap is very deep purple-black in color and gives up intense Black Forest cake, black berry pie and blackcurrant cordial scents with hints of licorice, eucalyptus, espresso, tar and chargrilled beef. Full-bodied, it packs the black fruit preserves flavors and earthy accents into the palate, with a firm frame and great freshness on the finish.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five is precise, nuanced and brilliant. Dark cherry, violet, plum and lavender open up beautifully in this deeply expressive Cabernet. Medium in body, gracious and impeccably polished, the 2016 is shaping up to be a winner from Shafer.

Shafer Vineyards

The site of Shafer has been around since 1880, and grapes continued to be grown here, even during prohibition. It is said that some wine was made here during that time. In 1972, John Shafer bought the property in the Stag’s Leap district, he immediately began planting the Cabernet on the hillside.
