Pale yellow. Subdued aromas of yellow peach and flowers, plus a suggestion of wild herbs. Suppler and more deeply pitched than the Champgains, offering lovely depth of fruit and an oily quality. But not yet as silky as the last wine. This wine has excellent potential but will need a couple years in the cellar to absorb its slight bitter edge.

Honey, apricot, hazelnut, butter, smoke, mint, licorice and tangerine notes all flesh out in the Chassagne-Montrachet Clos St. Jean. This is a decidedly rich, powerful Chassagne endowed with serious depth. The 2011 is a beautifully layered, generous Burgundy to drink now and over the next handful of years.
Bright yellow. Mirabelle, menthol, honey, spices and yellow flowers on the nose; very Chassagne. Supple on entry, then nicely firm, even a bit stony, in the middle, with ripe acidity giving shape to the yellow fruit and plum flavors. Perhaps not as deep or rich as the Vergers, but showing more tension and acidity. Coutoux describes the 2009s as "a bit soft, like 1989," but this wine has adequate energy.
