Full, rich, absorbing and extremely flattering. Just this side of over the top. Not for traditionalists. (JR)

The 1998 Pinot Noir Martinelli Vineyard Reserve's bouquet offers scents of earth, seaweed, smoke, black cherry jam, raspberries, and grilled meats. Full-bodied, chewy, and exotic, with an ostentatious/exuberant personality, it possesses adequate acidity, sweet tannin, and subtle notes of new wood. It should drink well for 7-8 years. Tel. About the producer

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
