Medium red. Musky, soil-inflected aromas of minerals, coffee, chocolate, roasted herbs and underbrush. Offers excellent richness and ripeness, not to mention very good volume for the year, but comes across as classically dry. Finishes with excellent spicy length.

A blend of four premier cru parcels, the 2002 Morey-St.-Denis 1er Cru has herbal black fruit aromas. Its structured, firm, light to medium-bodied core displays flowers, assorted herbs, and black fruits. Projected maturity: 2006-2012. Importer: Wilson-Daniels, St. Helena, CA; tel. (707) 963-9661
(aging in 80% new oak; mostly from Ruchots) Full ruby-red. Deep, slightly reduced aromas of black fruits, gunflint, pepper, game, herbs and underbrush. Suave and sweet in the middle, then tannic and tight on the end. The malolactic fermentation here was very late, and today, according to Seysses, "one is tasting the outside of the wine."
