The haunting nose of quince tinged with vanilla reminds me of a youthful 1975 Rheingau Auslese. Pear nectar and quince preserves with a touch of mango are laced with salted caramel on a glossy, glycerol-rich palate, leading to a lusciously lingering finish admirably transparent to nuances of liquid honeysuckle and heliotrope perfume. The sense of sweetness is entirely supportive but by no means obvious - here’s proof, should you still need it, that an Auslese can be at once profound and downright refreshing.
