Score 92/100 · Drink 2019-2030, David Schildknecht, Vinous, Aug 2019

Picked two days earlier, at higher acidity, and in a distinct parcel from that which informed the Jesuitengarten halbtrocken, this wine nonetheless reflects the same diligent removal of rot-affected bunches as well as the need to harvest parcels in this site precisely au point. Pear and nutmeg on the nose are delightfully complemented on the palate by a creamy feel, while at the same time there is enough primary pearsy juiciness plus a light squeeze of lime to insure animation and refreshment. Fleur de sel in the lusciously-lingering finish serves for saliva-inducement. This beauty won’t make one forget the staggering success that was Spreitzers’ 2016 Jesuitengarten Spätlese, but it is a model of Rheingau Riesling on the rich and seductive end of that genre’s spectrum.
