A bright lemon-yellow color already indicates the 2012 Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Spätlese was made "without a single botrytis berry," as Barbara Selbach puts it. Picked November 5 and bottled with 8% alcohol and 70 grams per liter residual sugar, the clear bouquet reveals herbal notes along with bright fruit flavors leading to a quite sweet and elegant wine with a nice but rather gentle acidity. The finish is salty, stimulating and piquant, although for my personal taste less sugar would have allowed it more tension

Pale green. Alluring hazelnut nose. Rich, sweet palate entry and a tad food dragging on the palate. Just a bit jagged and astringent at the moment. (JR)
