Score 91-93/100 · Drink 2014-2024, Robert Parker, Dec 2014

An homage to a Bandol-styled wine from the Domaine Tempier, the 2013 Proprietary Red Ode to Lucien comes from vineyards planted before 1900. Composed of 72% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache and 8% Syrah, this beauty offers up notes of sweet, briery black raspberry and black cherry fruit, earth, underbrush, pepper and barbecue spice, and a deep, rich, full-bodied mouthfeel. The Mourvèdre component is very ripe, but not overdone. The result is a complex, blue and black-fruited style of wine with plenty of body as well as sweet tannin. It should drink well for 7-10 years.
