Tasting notes
A dead ringer for a Pinot Noir from the Cote de Nuits, the 2014 Grenache Bien Nacido Vineyard sports a translucent ruby color to go with lots of black cherry, crushed rock, mint, spice and forest floor aromas and flavors, with a saline-like minerality coming out with time in the glass. Medium-bodied, elegant, seamless and silky, with ultra-fine tannin, it benefits from a decant, and will drink nicely through 2024.

The 2014 Grenache Ora et Labora Bien Nacido Vineyard is the most inward and tightly wound of Paul Lato's Grenaches. Dark cherry, plum, tobacco, licorice, spice and herbs give the 2014 its dark, somewhat brooding personality. The Bien Nacido needs time in bottle for the tannins to soften, but it should be terrific once that starts to happen. Even with all of its intensity, this is essentially a mid-weight style of Syrah.
