The 2008 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes has a lovely nose: tensile, fresh as a daisy, energetic, the kind of mature Meursault that puts your faith back into cellaring. The palate is vibrant and fresh with just the right amount of reduction. Wonderful harmony here, gaining weight in the mouth towards a succinct hazelnut finish and a very persistent aftertaste. This is superb and it should continue to give several years of drinking pleasure. Tasted at Sarah Marsh's 2008 White Burgundy tasting.

Magnum. Greenish straw gold. Sweet, pleasing nose. Round and smoky on the nose. Chunky texture; lots to get your teeth into. Very solid and still youthful. Good acidity. Firm and bone dry. Not charming but potentially impressive. Still lots of developing to do. (JR)
