Good full red. Lovely perfumed nose offers redcurrant, red cherry, underbrush, herbs and tobacco. Dense on entry, then sweet, chewy and deep in the middle, with superb red fruit intensity and an exhilarating sappy character for such a fine-grained wine. Broad, noble tannins coat the tongue and teeth, with the finish displaying a late note of maraschino cherry. I'd give this a decade in the cellar, but there's nothing hard about it today.

The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes impresses for its stunning depth and richness. Black fruit, exotic spices, violets and licorice are some of the notes that flesh out in the glass. Hints of white flowers follow, adding brightness and lift on the finish. This is another terrific showing.

Bright, very deep red. Vibrant aromas of black cherry, dark raspberry, licorice, menthol and bitter chocolate, with a complicating note of truffle: another wine with a smiley face. Dense, saline and rather large-scaled, and much sweeter than the Baudes. Well-integrated acidity and minerality accentuate the impression of medicinal reserve. Really spreads out on the savory, echoing finish, where the palate-saturating tannins are more than supported by the wine's strong primary fruit element. This may well offer early appeal, but it has the stuffing and balance for a slow and positive evolution in bottle. This vineyard consistently performs best here in the cooler years.
