Includes 10% Merlot. From 18.5 early-ripening acres on Conn Creek. David Howell , who has written extensively about Napa Valley geology , has apparently proved the red rock that is characteristic of this site and Conn Creek is found only here and pre - dates the Vaca Range. A separate bottling of it was first proposed in 1982 but it was only in 1983 that is was actually made for the first time. The 1985 was Napa Valley’s first 100-pointer. From m agnum. Very deep glowing crimson. Intense, luscious nose. Very strongly Cabernet with glossy fruit and a bit of alcohol on the end. Sweeter than the hillside wines. (JR)

Bright medium ruby. Tight, high-pitched aromas of blackberry, black cherry, licorice, minerals and musky tobacco. Densely packed and deep, offering compelling creamy sweetness to its flavors of black fruits, licorice and cocoa powder. This tactile, seriously concentrated wine really saturates the mouth on the back end, finishing with broad tannins, plenty of sweet oak and excellent persistence. Carries its 14.9% alcohol gracefully.

Presented by Suzanne Groth.   Includes 12% Merlot from Yountville. Cabernet from the 28-acre Reserve Block, night harvested. Double sorted. Five days' cold soak. Aged 22 months in 100% new French oak with the Cabernet lots blended half-way through barrel ageing. Lovely freshness, bright and juicy, lots of pure Cabernet character, just a little leafy. Long, firm and dense while remaining very fresh. (JH)
