The 2017 Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes Grand Cru has the same mixture of red and black fruit on the nose as the 2019, though perhaps with a little more florality. The palate has wonderful balance and mineralité , with a discreet ferrous note in the background. It merges with dark plummy fruit towards the sapid finish, hints of fig coming through with time. Less spicy than it showed from barrel, this is nevertheless a seriously fine Grand Cru for the vintage.

The 2017 Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes Grand Cru has a pixelated bouquet that really expresses the limestone soils of this vineyard: subtle pressed iris scents infuse the red berry fruit, all with brilliant delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. There is a fine bead of acidity here, again, a little spicy (the leitmotif throughout the Rousseau range) with impressive grip and persistence on the finish. Excellent.
