Bright red. Urgent high-pitched aromas of violet, spices and blood orange are complemented by lower-toned game and leather. At once dense and precise, displaying superb cut to its flavors of minerals, rose petal and blood orange. Wonderfully high-pitched, fresh and long on the aftertaste. Again, Gevrey in a Chambolle style.

The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux is another rich, textured wine. The Champeaux is an especially generous, seamless Gevrey. Dark red berries, cloves and sweet spices lead to darker, earthier hints of iron and plum. There is an immediacy to the Champeaux that is hard to resist, even if it is less vibrant and exciting than some of the other wines in the range. Readers will find much to like in a wine that will satisfy the Fourrier urge while perhaps sparing some of the more structured wines in this range for another day.

Bright medium red. Pungent aromas of red cherry, raspberry, blood orange and crushed stone. Dense and intensely flavored, with penetrating acidity giving focus and cut to the flavors of red fruits, flowers and blood orange. Wonderfully precise and tangy wine with firm, suave tannins and terrific tension and cut.

More iron than Goulouts. Just below Goulots, so still a bit cool though south facing. Bitter cherries. Fluid and a little bit loose – like cherry juice. Much less dense than some. (JR)
