Tasting notes
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has a very pure, pastille-like bouquet of morello cherry mixed with crushed strawberry and dried rose petals – very elegant. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and tart red cherry fruit mixed with allspice and orange peel. A little dryness creeps in toward the finish, and there’s a bitter note on the aftertaste. I was surprised at this showing given my previous encounters. Bad showing on the day? Dodgy bottle? Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has a wonderful bouquet of joyful red fruit laced with wild hedgerow and pressed rose petals, very elegant and crystalline in quality. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good structure and impressive tension on the classic, traditional-style finish. Difficult to resist!
Bottled July 2019. Lifted and open red cherry with a pretty floral note like the 2018 but more open, more dancing at the moment. Juicy, almost silky, much lighter in structure but still so balanced. (JH)
