Pale, bright yellow. Sexy nose combines pineapple, menthol and dusty stone, along with some noble Puligny herbs and white pepper. Concentrated and classic, with a hint of sucrosité quickly swallowed up by a brisk edge of acidity. This classic minerally Puligny is almost painfully backward today.

The 2013 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Caillerets is very reticent on the nose at the moment: backward and broody. The palate is clean and fresh with crisp acidity: light citrus peel and Granny Smith apple notes toward the second half, but resolutely linear and refusing to fan out on the finish. Give it three or four years to lose its inhibitions.

(from a crop level of 35 hectoliters per hectare): Cool aromas of musky white peach, menthol, white flowers and crushed stone. Silky and seamless on the palate, with the musky peach and crushed stone flavors carrying through. Enticing sweetness is nicely counterpointed by the wine's firm minerality. Finishes layered and long.
