Tasting notes
A great wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintner’s Select is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 20 months in 40% new French oak. This is a beauty, with classic notes of espresso bean, white chocolate, crème de cassis, licorice and graphite. Some subtle oak appears in the flavor profile, which is mostly dark black fruits. The wine cuts a broad swath across the palate, and is savory, pure and hedonistic. With each look, additional nuances seem to appear. Drink it over the next 15-20 years.

The 2013 Vintner Select Cabernet Sauvignon is ripe, voluptuous and opulent. Even so, readers will have to be patient, as there is plenty of tannin lurking beneath. Blackberry jam, crème de cassis, cherries in liqueur, smoke, licorice and new leather give the wine its sweet, extroverted personality. In my view, ripeness is pushed a bit too far here.
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintner Select is packed with inky dark fruit, crème de cassis, chocolate and espresso. Jammy and luscious to the core, the 2013 captures the house style at the time: tons of power and pure opulence. I like this quite a bit more than I did on release.
