Deep ruby. Powerful, spice-accented dark berry and cherry aromas are complicated by suggestions of musky earth, mocha and violet. Densely packed and expansive on the palate, showing bright, spicy lift to the appealingly sweet bitter cherry, blackberry and floral pastille flavors. Becomes more lively with air, and finishes very long and chewy, with dusty tannins building slowly.

Tank sample. Mid crimson. The whole-bunch fermentation shows a little more here than on the straight Moulin-à-Vent adding an attractive, almost herbal, freshness. More oaky on the palate, lots of fruit and oak spice. Completely embryonic, the tannins firm, compact and ruling the roost at the moment, though there is no lack of fruit. Needs time. (JH)
