Score 92/100 · Drink 2002-2018, Robert Parker, Jun 2002

The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is complete and impressive. A saturated ruby/purple color is followed by gorgeous aromas of black currants, toasty new oak, earth, lead pencil shavings, and spice. There is great fruit on the attack, medium to full body, beautiful purity, and a layered mid-palate as well as finish. The acidity is low for a mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery must have harvested extremely late in order to obtain this much ripeness from an area that was suspect in 1998. It will age well for 16+ years. Kudos to Robert Craig for such an impressive achievement in this irregular vintage. Tel. (707) 252-2250
