Tasting notes
Highly nuanced aromas of spices, hay, menthol and fresh herbs. Lush, sweet and layered, with subtle stone fruit flavors and a three-dimensional texture. Chewy but quite suave. Finishes impressively long and spicy. From a yield of barely 1.5 tons per acre, according to Lee Martinelli.

A Sonoma Coast offering, the 2003 Chardonnay Three Sisters Sea Ridge Meadow reminds me of a Louis Latour Batard-Montrachet. It is an opulent wine revealing scents of lemon oil, orange blossom, honeysuckle, and minerals. Full-bodied and rich, with beautifully integrated wood and acidity, it should drink well for 4-6 years. Before readers inundate the office with questions, the Martinellis were not happy with the Syrah vineyards in 2004 and did not make any wines. (Release date 3/06) Tel. About the producer

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
