The 2013 Chablis Fôrets 1er Cru, poured in magnum, is an impressive Chablis, though not one that I would rank amongst Dauvissat's most thrilling. Taut and focused on the nose with faint, shucked oyster shell scents. It's intriguing and develops a light camphor scent over the course of a couple of hours. But did I want that there? The palate is surprisingly intense with citrus peel and orange zest, more exotic than I would have expected with a finish that just falls a little short on mineralité . It's a wonderful Chablis, and this magnum was drinking perfectly now. Tasted at Maison de Colombier in Beaune.

Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Brouilland. The 2013 Chablis 1er Cru la Forest has a clean, fresh and vibrant bouquet with plenty of citrus fruit combining nicely with slate and flinty notes. Très Chablis! The palate is well balanced with a crisp line of acidity, nicely integrated oak that lends weight, smoke and walnut surfacing towards the finish that feels persistent. This is certainly one of the better Chablis in 2013 and it was no surprise it came from Vincent Dauvissat. Tasted May 2016.

Bright, pale yellow. Less fruity and exotic than the Montée de Tonnerre, hinting at oyster shell on the nose. Sappy, chewy and concentrated but quite dry; distinctly more stony and mineral than the Montée de Tonnerre and every bit as long. This struck me as like a mini-Clos. An outstanding and ageworthy 2013 but it's not especially austere today.

An exotic, beguiling beauty, the 2013 Chablis La Forest seems to bring together the expansiveness of the Sechets and the intense minerality of the Vaillons. Graphite, minerals and exotic, perfumed fruit nuances grace the palate in an exceptionally beautiful, vivid Chablis to treasure over the next two decades.
