Tasting notes
Light ruby-colored and sporting a magnificent nose of stony black cherries, the 2001 Volnay Caillerets is broad, satin-textured, and detailed. A shockingly good Volnay for the vintage, it delights the palate with red cherries, raspberries, and touches of violets whose effects linger in its soft finish. Drink this beauty over the next 5-6 years. A Becky Wasserman Selection / Le Serbet; French Fax: 011-33-3-80-24-29-70, various American importers.

Good medium red. Cooler aromas of black cherry, leather and mint. Sweet and broad in the mouth; less perfumed and fine than the Chateau des Ducs but showing more early roundness and fat. Sound acids extend the fruit. Strong but a bit youthfully unevolved on the back end, with enough material to buffer the tannins.
