Tasting notes
(includes bits of petit verdot, malbec and cabernet franc) Deep ruby to the rim. High-pitched aromas of violet, licorice and minerals. Dense and sweet but extremely primary, with surprising acidity to the flavors of cassis and molten chocolate. Painfully young and not yet expressing itself. This is from the cool Coombsville area, from vines routinely harvested in October. May ultimately merit a higher score.

Slightly softer and more velvety-textured, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon will be drinkable slightly sooner than the Special K, but the two wines are almost identical in quality as well as character. It possesses outstanding fruit, full-bodied power, and well-integrated wood, acidity, and tannin. Tel. (707) 258-1416; Fax (707) 294-2312
Bright medium ruby. Deep, brooding aromas of sweet black raspberry, minerals and game. Suave on entry, then powerful, dry and quite primary in the middle, with the density of the vintage's best examples leavened by sound acidity. But this is barely wine today, as its tightly coiled black fruit flavors will need further elevage-and bottle aging-to express themselves. Herold described this wine as "a baby monster."
