Tasting notes
(15.9% alcohol) Good medium ruby. Sexy black raspberry and blackberry on the nose. Rich and full, with dark chocolate and espresso currently overshadowing the wine's dark fruits. Finishes with substantial tannins and some slightly aggressive alcohol.

Exotic, in-your-face, and nearly over the top is the dense ruby/purple-colored 2003 Merlot Alder Springs Vineyard. Notions of mocha, blueberries, blackberries, cherry liqueur, chocolate, and espresso are found in this sweet (high glycerin), heady, full-bodied Merlot with a heady, hedonistic, blockbuster finish. It can be consumed now and over the next 7-10 years. I can’t say enough good things about Behrens and Hitchcock. This is the type of winery operation that gives hope to aspiring home winemakers who want to make it in the big time. They have followed their dreams, unearthed top vineyards that were available to everybody, and are making non-interventionalistic wines of extraordinary personality and character.
